Thanks for the airplay Barbara Richhart! That song was inspired by Carl Oksanen, who lives in Jackson, Wyoming. I met him in the early 70’s when I played the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. Carl was a fabulous carpenter and woodworker, and rode bulls on the weekend. I was doing several Billy Joe Shaver songs at the time before his first album came out and Carl wrote me a check for $12.00 for Billy Joe’s album when it came out. Billy Joe framed the check and hung it on his wall – his first album sale! Carl is now a world class photographer Click here to see a video about him (done by his son Arden) that Carl narrates, and “Rodeo Fool” shows up along the way. Now you know the rest of the story“.
