Janice & Larry Franklin
A native of Fort Smith, Larry attended UAFS, then Westark Junior College, in the early 60s. He went on to earn a BSME at the University of Tulsa in 1963 and went to work for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. (OG&E) as a mechanical engineer. While at work OG&E, he worked in design and construction of new generating stations. Following this, he worked as a senior mechanical engineer for consulting firms, as well as for Sequoyah Fuels and Fort James Paper Co.
Janice was born in Tyler, Texas, and moved to Fort Smith in 1960. She attended the University of the Ozarks, obtaining a BS in Natural Sciences with minors in chemistry and mathematics , and during one summer semester, she took a physics course at UAFS. She and Larry married in 1981. Ever community-minded, Janice volunteered with the Oklahoma City YWCA, where she served on the Board of Directors as Board Secretary and eventually, Board Vice-President. Janice also served on the Board of the Passageway Emergency Shelter for Battered Women.
